Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Another of the birds that spend the winter with us, but breed further north. This is a yellow-bellied sapsucker. A male. The female has the red cap, but not the red throat. The yellow belly is very pale - and probably varies a bit from bird to bird. You can see the ring of holes he's made around the tree - sucking the sap. Lots of information here. A sapsucker is a woodpecker.
Fun fact - in the winter when I hear a mewing cat-like call it's one of these. In the summer when I hear a rather similar cat-like sound it's a gray catbird.
