Heracles and Helios

A guided tour of the fascinating exhibition 'Meanings' at the Acropolis museum .. on the subject of personifications and allegories from antiquity to today. The exhibition included a varied collection of important artworks from Greece, Italy and other countries, and showed the personifications of concepts and emotions, heavenly bodies, geographical features, towns institutions and more. The photo is a black figured clay vessel dated 500BC from Taranto, Italy, showing Heracles (Hercules) and the personification of God Helios (Sun) rising from the ocean with his chariot.
