Reef beach

Today has been a very mixed weather day.  Temperatures are a lot colder around 3C first thing and the highest hills had a dusting of snow on them. We decided to visit the island of Great Bernera which has a bridge connecting it to Lewis.  We travelled there through some rain / snow storms but the sun came out by the time we arrived at Bosta Beach.  There are some Iron Age houses hidden in the sand dunes and a reconstructed one visible at one end of the beach.  We enjoyed taking sand patterns here as well as ones of the rocks and sea.  Interestingly there is a Time and Tide bell sculpture by the sea which rings at high tide.

As we were leaving we stopped at the community shop and on Thursdays they serve soup and hot drinks.  We stayed for the soup and enjoyed various discussions with the friendly local people.

We then headed back to the bridge where there are steps to the Callanish VIII semi circle of standing stones.  The weather at this point was changing rapidly as dark clouds headed towards us.  We waited out the heavy rain in the car before driving back to the Bhaltos Peninsula that we visited yesterday.  The sun started to reappear as we stopped at Cliff Beach finding some good sand patterns by the small river.  The waves were still fairly high here.  Next stop was Reef beach and by now the sun was beginning to get low.  The light was lovely and we spent time taking shots across the beach.  I watched as a woman took her dog for a walk across the beach, what a lovely way to finish her day.  We then headed for home and arrived just in time to catch a sunset over the beach from our property in Eig.  Another enjoyable day.
