The Bombax is Back! The Bombax is Back!

And with the return of the bombax tree (also called the red silk-cotton tree) comes the birdies that want to get to the nectar.

I went out to the botanical gardens to play Flower Friday, but couldn't resist getting the woodpecker into the shot. it was hard to do because the bird is very wary and doesn't stay long in one spot.

There are 2 of these trees on the grounds, and you should see...what was on the other tree. That shot is in my extras with a nice clear blue sky, which quickly turned gray.

The raptor was eating a small swordfish, and his/her mate was nearby clamoring for his/her share of the fish.
