Seven septuagenarian (and one somewhat younger) volunteers spent this morning in the QE2 native bush covenant eradicating old man's beard. I worked with them and was intrigued to find a N.Z. endemic supplejack vine had twisted itself into an almost perfect 8.  Afterwards there were refreshments (apple juice, chocolate cake, date slice) on the verandah and when everyone had gone I had a little nap.
