Serendipity

Hardwick Hall.

A trip up the M1 to meet up with a pal for a wander round Hardwick Hall and lunch in the cafe. Very pleasant it was too. If you're going in the next few days make sure to take your wellies though as it's a bit muddy underfoot in the parkland. [There's an extra for the 'traditionalists'.]

Oh, and if you do go and you're not a National Trust member you can still get in for free with your English Heritage card. I only discovered this after paying, the not inconsiderable £17, and then chatting with the person when they asked if I wanted to join, which was a no because I am a member of EH instead. At which point, a refund was offered due to it being a joint site. They claimed to have forgotten to ask in advance although I noticed the people paying next to me weren't asked either. Hmmm....

Compare both their websites for info about entry charges:

If I'd have got home and discovered this I would have been mighty miffed!
