Collateral
In Dar es Salaam today it has been extremely hot. In most of the northern hemisphere mid-February is frozen and people start to lose their sanity after a few months of bleakness. This is why I’m seeing lots of people on winter sun breaks to Cape Town and the Canary Islands. Bravo to them.
I watched an intriguing film with a friend, Eye In The Sky, which was released in 2015 but I’d not clocked it. Largely because I am diabolical at keeping up with films. The film depicts a fictional scenario where the UK and US military act remotely with impunity on foreign territory. Some characters are very cavalier about civilian collateral damage, whereas some are clearly depicted as the moral foil. What would be marvellous right now in the UK government’s shameful response to Israel-Gaza is a larger number of moral voices pushing the very horrifying issue of civilian losses. The film was extremely timely to watch with what we are witnessing happening in the world right now, and the complicity of the US and UK in a humanitarian bloodbath.
