Damselfy courtship
The ponds ar Rimac Nature Reserve were alive with courting couples this morning! I was a bit of a voyeur as damselfies were very active in the sunshine and warmth. Knew nothing about their breeding habits so have had to do a bit of research. Before they actually copulate males and females spend some considerable time in physical contact with one another presumable in an effort to assess their potential mate! The physical contact that I am blipping shows a male clasping the female's thorax with the four terminal appendages on the end of his abdomen. No doubt the female is eyeing up the male to see if he is up to standard and if she will mate with him!
Took loads of shots, as you can imagine, but liked the reflections of the wings in this one.
