Back in the North
I hope I have not posted this photo previously? It could be part of the Undiscovered Aberdeen series. Obviously the glass building is the Marine Operations Centre, but the focus here is on the obelisk.
When I first saw the obelisk years ago, I thought that was what it is, an obelisk and some sort of monument. Instead it is primarily a ventilator shaft for a now disused sewer. It is apparently known as Scarty's Monument after a 19th Century pilot.
The weather was a reasonably gentle reintroduction to Aberdeen after Lake Como, with a temperature of 17 degrees, though it felt more in the sunshine. Still I had a light jacket over a shirt.
A visit to John Lewis in the morning turned out to be too early for a fruit tart, but I did manage a Danish pastry.
