"Squalid Conditions"

Warning! A lengthy moan is about to follow....

I have been working from home today so I could let the gas safety check man in to do our annual check our landlord is obliged to do. He quickly worked out that our heating and hot water systems don't work as they should and asked me if our landlord knew. They do. I told them over a year ago but they just don't care.

Having had bad experiences renting other places before I tend not to complain unless it is causing real issues (water leaks or something of a similar nature). I am fearful of either being asked to leave or the rent going up so I try not to stir up trouble and just live with anything they won't fix. I just simply point out a problem so they are aware and then it is up to them to decide what they want to do, I don't push it. I'm not normally so meek, honest! I just don't feel secure living in rented accommodation so try not to rock the boat too much.

Anyway, the gas safety check man (who was lovely) left just now. His parting words were "squalid conditions" in respect of our heating/hot water. I cannot wait until we have left here and are living in our own home and have control over our own living standards.

Sorry to moan, yes I know I could be more assertive on this matter but I'm hoping it's not for much longer that this will be the situation.
