Whinchat

Our tour took a long circuit today around the Yorkshire moors west of Scarborough. Good birds were not numerous; this male Whinchat made a relatively brief appearance. Weather was grey, with some rain starting in the afternoon.

Additional birds: golden plover, red grouse, lapwing, skylark, reed warbler, yellowhammer, common buzzard, and meadow pipits everywhere.

Last night: a short outing for nightjars (one seen well, as well as heard) and woodcocks (several displaying with flights straight past us overhead--very different from the American species).
