Cast Court

Really interesting course at the V&A today on producing art cards. We took images of objects in the museum and combined them into designs for greetings cards using layers, blending modes and filters. The designs were sent off to moo.com and we will receive our cards by post in a few days' time - clever stuff!

This is the Cast Court in the museum - plaster casts of important architecture and famous sculptures, including Michelangelo's David! The gallery is being redesigned at the moment so lots of the exhibits are in packing cases. The casts were mostly made in the 19th century, the idea being that students could study and draw them. An interesting benefit is that the casts show what things looked like 150 years ago, and a lot of the architecture has suffered severe damage since then from wars and pollution, so it's a valuable archive.
