Like Summer
One of the reasons I bought a 70-300mm lens was for use with a teleconverter to achieve the same reach as my much larger 100-400. The idea being to take the smaller lens when travelling without compromising range.
I realised I had never tested this combination so today was the day and I was pleased with the results as this image of a red-bellied woodpecker testifies.
I also captured a mallard pair, red-winged blackbird, song sparrow, starlings and a squirrel, at considerable distance and equally successfully. The only downside is maximum aperture is f8, rather than f5.6, so higher isos required.
Today's high 71°F, in February!
