Istanbul day 4 - Balat and Fener

After breakfast - do like the Turkish breakfast! -;We walked up to Balat and Fener. With the colourful houses of Balat and very steep slopes it was well worth the walk there. The walk itself was interesting as we saw the Aqueduct of Valens, Emperor Hadrian started the build to bring fresh water to the city. Now a very busy road runs under it. We stopped for Turkish tea in a cafe under the arches. 

Then on to Balat. Very colourful, not too busy - the joy of coming in February. After lunch we sauntered back into the city ambling through the bazaars. Totally madness but great fun, despite Pete having a cat jump off the roof onto his head. I don’t know who was more shocked! Lots of shopping done - the joy of not being with the bikes!
