The Cafe Royal, Edinburgh...

We had a lovely evening... We set off in the afternoon for Edinburgh as we had tickets for the Lucinda Williams concert in the evening and a reservation for the Cafe Royal. We arrived at the Cafe Royal early, and the restaurant was quiet (which it rarely is!), so took the chance to capture this shot of its elegance...

The Cafe Royal has been in its current location in the centre of Edinburgh since 8th July 1863 and, in terms of decor, little has changed since then. The Cafe is a glorious example of Victorian and Baroque and serves wonderful seafood and other dishes. Eating here is like stepping back in time, although I accept that the food is probably different... the ambience is of a bygone age. I love the stained glass in the restaurant and the Doultan ceramic murals in both the restaurant and the bar...

After a lovely dinner, we headed off to the Lucinda Williams concert which was excellent. The support act was Jimmy Livingstone and he was also really good... then Lucinda and her band, who were, as always, excellent! A late night for a Sunday by the time we got back home, but well worth it!
