one day in France

The Tonnelle

This is the tower or tonnelle in old French, where taxes were collected for passing through the village of St Émilion. It was in the car park of the Château Balestard La Tonnelle where we went today for the RAF Association AGM.
We drove through torrential rain all the way, and arrived to coffee, shortbread biscuits and chat before the meeting which only lasts about an hour.
Then it was a little wine tasting from the St Émilion Grand Cru Classé wines  produced from vines pointed out to us, and a lovely lunch at a nearby restaurant.
I wasn’t drinking and drove home in yet more torrential rain to find roads flooded everywhere around us. This is the worst we we’ve ever seen it.
