It's All About The Grain
210mm x 20mm.......... (that is roughly 8in x 1in in old money).
I do like Yew, even in the 'white' sapwood tends to try and peel off in layers.
The 2 Ash dishes following the linked shot have the most wonderful convoluted grain and spalting (where the wood has started to rot and discoloured the wood). The best description I have heard describing it is 'battle lines between different fungal spores.
Bothe dishes are from the same piece of wood (although you might not believe it looking at them).
The first is the smaller at 105mm x 35mm and the second is125mm x 35mm.
The only other 'interesting' thing today has been wondering where all the frogs have gone. 3 days ago I counted 31 - 2 days ago there were none and we have seen not a one since.
