Return of the red belly woodpecker
He finally managed to get to the suet feeder in-between the starlings who were bullying everything else off. Fortunately they get spooked when the very loud propane trucks coming up from Pennsylvania use the air brakes to stop at the traffic light. That is rather annoying at 5 in the morning for us but the woodpeckers get some time at the feeders when it happens during the day. Migration is definitely starting as the few juvenile redwings are now being accompanied by quite bright males. And the numbers of blackbirds are up today. Posting this a day late again though as I fell asleep on the chair after dinner yesterday. I must be getting old - a warm blanket and a warm cat on my lap and I can't stay awake.
