Rural Cuba
Today we hired a horse and cart and had a little tour around the countryside. The tour lasted just over 2 hours and was a real eye opener into how the Cubans live.
As part of it we went around the local town, and saw first hand the poverty some people live in. Heartbreaking! We also saw some unusual sights such as pigs heads being sold and cows tied to cars being walked along the road!
We were taken to a mini zoo! In the UK it would be animal cruelty! It was somebody's back garden and I'm sure that with the exception of the huge Dalmatian dog all the animals had been caught in the wild! They had eagles, lizards, vultures and birds in cages smaller than a chair! I couldn't stand it and had to leave and the woman looked at me really rudely when I refused to leave her a tip!
After that we went to a farm where we tried a lot of fruits that he picked straight off the tree for us! The mango was especially delicious! Charlotte liked the banana! We were given coconuts to drink and then eat. The farmer preparing these is the subject of today's blip. He was one of the nicest people we have met so far!
The afternoon was spent at the pool! Charlotte is eating much more confident now which is nice and we are noticing a lot of progress with her swimming now she's used to the pool!
The evening was spent at an amazing show! I think that I enjoyed it more than Charlotte did! It was called 'once upon a time' and was a dance show of songs from kids films such as 'Madagascar' and a fair few Disney ones! They dress the little ones up and sit them on the stage so they get to join in with the dances! Charlotte especially loved this! He's certainly not shy!
