Beaver dam
A bluebird day in northern Michigan saturated in pop-color*
Dave, Jasmine and I used the day for an excuse to explore. To scout a new beaver dam for a field lab we often do. The one now is too old, all abandoned. We chased the rumor of one south to Wolverine and found an enormous dam. A world of downed trees, dammed up water, and flooded marshland fecund with spring life.
No sign of the beavers but we saw red winged blackbirds, rose breasted grosbeaks, mallard ducks, and cedar waxwings, among many others. We heard the chirp of frogs and listened to the murmur of flowing water. The place so awash in spring growth I thought I could almost hear the leaves grow.....
