Life on the Tonlé Sap Lake, Cambodia

Our local partner, the Lake Clinic, takes medical care by boat to floating villages on the Tonlé Sap Lake, Cambodia.

At one of their clinics this man arrived. He has been using the traditional remedy of 'cupping', which is said to cleanse the body of ill-health and he wanted a second medical opinion. Cupping is quite harmless and practiced by the likes of Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow. Whether or not it is effective is open for debate!

The people who live and work on the Lake and its tributaries are among the poorest and most vulnerable in the country. The nearest healthcare available to them can be several days' journey by boat to reach. Unsurprisingly, disease and needless disability are rife, so the clinic fulfills a vital role.
