A Day Away

Off we went, Daughter #1 and I, through the early morning traffic jams, diversions and road works to the calm of the countryside near Peebles. We had a pit stop in the town itself and then forged onward to Dreva beyond Stobo to park the car and gaze down on the valley below and the river Tweed twisting its way  through the fields.
Before us were the Manor Hills , gentle rounded hills with their covering of evergreen and deciduous trees in every shade from dark green to soft shades velvety brown and dark purple. We walked some way along the road and the silence was complete save for the noise of trickling water in the ditches by the roadside. We stopped by the Altarstone (see extra) with connections to Merlin which lies at the end of a walk from Stobo Castle, but there’s really not much left of original Altarstone to see.

Then it was down to the Café at Dawyck Botanic Garden for an early Mother’s Day lunch from #1 daughter.
Altogether a lovely day away from the ‘Madding Crowd’ and the chance to experience the peace of the countryside that feeds the soul.
