Newt
We are very lucky on our university campus to have populations of newts (including great crested newts) living in the ponds and we spent some time this afternoon watching them. Sadly, my newt identification skills aren't great so while we're fairly sure did see at least one great crested newt, which looked much much bigger and darker, I'm not entirely sure what this is (or most of the other ones I managed to photograph!)
It was a fun challenge getting photos of them while they were underwater and I was pleasantly surprised by how well a lot of them turned out. Hopefully as the season goes on I'll get to see more and learn a bit more about them as I suspect we managed to spot at least 2 different species in this one pond.
