Rochdale Town Hall
Went to the official opening concert of Rochdale Town Hall, following its restoration.
Like its opening in 1871, The Black Dyke Band played, World Class Brass, as the programme states.
They're currently National and Yorkshire Champions, having been crowned the latter last Sunday for the 4th time on the bounce.
The acoustics of the hall are perfect for them and the wonderful Binns Organ. The evening being led by tonight's conductor, a Rochdale lad...Chris Binns (no relation!)
A varied programme of classics, lesser known gems and some James Bond themes, with a little flag waving for Land of Hope and Glory at the end.
Tremendous.
One small point, the bar was serving Brixton Pale Ale...eh? We've just had a night of going FULL NORTHERN and a beer from down south. They should talk to The Flyer who have 37 lines AND a whole rake of beers from Rochdale, Heywood, Bury and West Yorkshire. Keep it local, c'mon.
