Mothering Sunday
We had an easy start to the day, all of us did some exercise and then after breakfast we took Xena for a walk. Adam planned to do his last longish run before the Rome Marathon next weekend, but unfortunately he came back early as his knee was hurting badly - he is gutted as his training has been going so well and he was keen to achieve a very good time in the marathon. It's an old ITB injury that seems to have come back and he hopes he can run okay in the race next Sunday. It's a familiar story with runners, there is always an injury that messes up their goals.
It was not the best weather for Mothering Sunday, it has rained all day. We had lunch booked at the pub in our village and usually we walk there but as it was raining...we drove there, very lazy I know. Inca did not come with us as she wanted to rather study (her exams start on Tuesday) so I quickly made her a lunch, roasted some tofu and Mediterranean vegetables which she enjoyed. Our lunch was superb - when I say pub lunch it is more fine dining that regular pub food, and we can always count on a good meal when we go there.
Adam has now returned to Cambridge and Luke will get the train back to London later tonight.
The leaking shower is still doing my head in. The plumber who came on Tuesday was meant to come fix it on Friday but he never arrived. We have used him before and he does a very good job, although his timing is a bit unreliable and he always requires payment for materials and parts beforehand as he has poor management of his cashflow. When Gavin phoned him to check why he had not arrived, he said his dad was ill from chemotherapy so he could not come. He promised faithfully to come on Saturday morning before 9am. Well of course he did not arrive again, so after waiting a few hours Gavin phoned him again and it seems his grandad had died so he could not come. He promised to come on Monday morning, but I fear his grandmother/cat/dog/ will die so he probably won't arrive again. We don't want to wait for his entire family to die off so we have now contacted another plumber to do the job. I am familiar with this kind of worker where we have gone through a string of lies, always giving the benefit of the doubt until we realise we have been taken for a fool, so we don't want to wait this one out anymore. Unfortunately we have already paid him for all the materials, in addition to his extortionist £220 call out fee to see what was the problem.
It looks like another busy week....
