Sewing shoulder pads on seems like an easy task until you come to do it.
You have to position them, then pin them, then then sew them. It’s the positioning that’s the trickiest bit.
One problem is that they have to be in the same place on each side, like mirror images, otherwise the top will be wonky when worn.
Another problem, specific to this top, is that its shoulders aren’t mirror images of each other: one is normal, the other has extra flouncy bits.
A further problem, specific to this situation, is that the top wasn’t designed to have shoulder pads, so the shoulder seam and the edge of where the shoulder pad should go don’t align.
Yet another problem, specific to this situation, is that the modern shoulder pad and the nineteen-eighties shoulder pad differ somewhat in height.
The last problem is that I’m not great at sewing.
