Washed Up Duck, Lower Upnor

It was another grey day today but at least it wasn't lashing it down with rain as it was yesterday, so after an early morning run we decided to head to Upper Upnor for a walk down it's beautiful cobbled High Street. At the bottom of the road is Upnor Castle which sits on a wide bend of the River Medway. We then proceeded to walk around the environs of Upper Upnor and came across streets and houses we'd never seen before. This included a terrace of rather handsome Edwardian houses at the outer reaches of the village.
It was then a circuitous route back to one of the two pubs on the High Street. This time we picked The Tudor Rose and it turned out to be a delightfully atmospheric pub with really friendly staff. It looked tiny from the outside but was deceptively bigger on the inside with three bar areas, a dining room and a garden (with resident ducks!) out the back. Of course, we had to sample a pint just to make sure! My brother managed to capture his blip in Upper Upnor but I failed in trying to find a shot so we headed down the hill to Lower Upnor (which has another two pubs plus a yacht club!) which is where I took today's image of a toy duck that had been washed up on one of the boatyard slipways leading down to the river. It did look very forlorn.
