Santa Croce church, Badia
This is the beautiful church of Santa Croce. We skied here today and it was looking gorgeous against the snow and blue sky.
Around 1010 the monks built a chapel at La Crusc where a small church was erected in the 15th century. At the end of the 17th century the church was deconsecrated by the then Austrian Emperor and was subsequently left to decay. Pilgrims and valley dwellers rescued the little church by partially rebuilding it, and some years later in the middle of the 18th century it was enlarged and embellished with a bell tower. It is now a Unesco World Heritage site
You get to it up a couple of lifts and a short walk from the village of Pedraces. We have been here several times in summer and winter
It was really warm today so by the time we descended the snow had turned to mush at the bottom. It was not a pleasant experience. We chickened out from part of the ski back to Corvara and caught a bus.
Compare with my previous blip in 2014
