Hue

We took a two-hour taxi ride to Hue (pronounced Hoo-ay) for the princely sum of about £30 this morning, and checked into the Saigon Morin Hotel, a 123-year old pile in the middle of the city – very much in the style of Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Real old-school.

We hired a couple of push-bikes from the hotel and took our lives in our hands by cycling up an incredibly busy road to the Thien Mu pagoda, a few miles along the Perfume River from the city centre (see extras). It was hot and muggy, and the whole place has a real tropical feel to it. We then moved onto the Imperial City, which was the seat of the Nguyen dynasty. Sadly much of it was bombed by the USA in the war, but it's still incredibly impressive and three times the size of the Forbidden City in China. As you'd expect, there were several ponds full of giant Koi Carp and catfish.

Another great day – did I mention that we love this country?
