A grand (but rainy) day out

A two train trip to Abergavenny. You really know you’re in a different country. Can’t understand the announcements on the train, or the signs. Luckily I know Abergavenny is Y Fenni. Met my friends who used to live in Bristol, but 8 years ago moved to a tiny beautiful place in the mountains in mid Wales. Quite a drive for them to get to Abergavenny. They’re moving back to Bristol this year. They feel there are more places to walk with their dog here, as there is livestock everywhere in their area. And lots of fox hunting which they absolutely hate. And 1.25 hours to drive to the cinema. They’ve loved being in Wales, but I think, like me, they’re really city people. Anyhow we had a good day chatting, though, as it was so rainy we just sat in a cafe, then moved on to a restaurant for lunch. The station is well outside the town, with a pleasant walk to the centre through quiet streets. Living in a mountain free zone, it’s very exciting to see them, even though the tops were covered by clouds. The main street is nice, lots of cafes and charity shops.
