On Call
You never want to hear the phone ring at 3:30am. It can never be good news.
That involved a lot of scrambling to my desk, looking at the problem and solving the problem. There's a certain amount of gallows humour involved in working at that time.
Back to bed at around 5am. Sleep helpfully interrupted by cats who thought it was definitely time for breakfast.
Managed a few hours of broken sleep. Then back to check on things - oh, look at that an e-mail from someone who has no idea how the mainframe works. Apparently it's our fault that the thing that wasn't there, wasn't implemented.
We're a good team but implementing things that aren't there?
On the plus side, we get paid for it.
