The Big House, in Laramie, Wyoming

If you know your Hollywood westerns, you know of the most romantic outlaw ever held here, in the Wyoming Territorial Prison: Butch Cassidy.

Yes, that Butch Cassidy. He was jailed here for stealing a $5 dollar horse, an offense that netted him a three-year term, of which he served 18 months.

This happened to Robert Leroy Parker (Cassidy's real name) way before he met Harry Longabaugh (the Sundance Kid). Robert Leroy got the nickname 'Butch' from working in a butcher shop in Lander, Wyoming. The surname "Cassidy' he took from a cattle rustler he had fallen in with.

For the record: the real Butch Cassidy was a good-looking fella, but nothing like Paul Newman.
