Young Ramses

We very much enjoyed the exhibition “Ramses and the gold of the pharaohs“ at the Australian Museum in Sydney.

Ramses was crowned in about 1279BC. This idealised statue shows him as a beautiful young man, He was a great warrior and a great builder. He lived for almost 100 years and fathered 100 children. He secured a peace treaty with Egypt’s arch enemy the Hittites. It is said to be the first example of such a treaty: surely we could use his skills now.
