Volunteer Recognition

I started volunteering with this group about a year ago. The woman who founded it did so the night of the Sandy Hook killings in Connecticut in 2012. When 20, 6 and 7 year olds and 6 faculty members were assassinated. A former school teacher, she felt she had to do SOMETHING. She started making quilts for every family, each with aspects that were unique to that child or faculty. When she moved to North Carolina, she started a group of Quilts 2 Heal here. Just over 3000 quilts have been made and most have been given away. The recipients have been given to families of tragedy, to unwed mothers and to veterans of foreign wars, most very personal when that is possible. She and her husband personally delivered 21 quilts to Uvalde, Texas after that mass shooting at a school. There are 7-8 people that work on each quilt. 300 volunteers between Connecticut and North Carolina. It’s an amazing organization and she is an amazing powerhouse of energy. So glad to be a part of it.
