Letting in the light

From my sofa with my foot up resting my ankle, I am so bored I find it interesting enough to take a picture of my neighbour cutting back his tree to let more light into our front room. The council also arrived to cut back a street tree that is also blocking our light. The tree surgeons are coming next week to remove some overgrown trees and shrubs.

I wonder why the previous owners tolerated the shade
