And, they are back
I should have realized that Air Canada can screw up the simplest of flights and that travelling with them, even on the shortest hops, is fraught with risk. And, so it transpired.
Having negotiated the long-haul flight properly – except that the food that had been pre-purchased was not available – Mrs Ottawacker and Ottawacker Jr arrived in Toronto at 7:25am, found their gate and waited for the 1-hour connecting flight to Ottawa. This was scheduled to leave at 9:30am. It didn’t. It was firstly delayed until 10:30am, then subsequently, at 10:30am, cancelled. They helpfully sent me an email (as I had reserved the tickets) telling me that they would book me onto a later flight. Cue video messages with exhausted Ottawackers.
Eventually, the Ottawackers were booked onto the 12:30pm flight, which became the 12:10 flight. They arrived at Ottawa at 13:25, which was only 10 minutes later than Air Canada had said. We said hello and had a catch up and waited for the luggage… you can see where this is going, right? Well, almost. One of the bags had managed to get on the flight, but not the second. So, we found the airport baggage staff and, having been told the missing case would be arriving at 2:30pm and asked whether we would like to hang around till then (how I laughed), they agreed to deliver it to the Ottawacker residence later on in the day.
Poor buggers, they were exhausted. Mind you, so was I. We spent the rest of the day chatting and catching up, before they both wandered off to bed around 7:30pm. The luggage arrived just before they wandered up. It’s good to have them home.
