Kent State memorial
Yesterday my younger brother drove us to Kent Ohio to see the May 4th 1970 exhibit where 4 students were killed by National Guard sent in by Ohio Governor Rhodes . The exhibit has many photographs from that time area displaying what times were like leading up to that. Many civil rights images of boycotts and marches along with Vietnam anti war protests. It was an extremely moving display for us as we were active in the anti war movement and deeply affected by this tragic day .
We also saw the memorial plaque to those killed. . I’ve included images as the hillside now is adorned with daffodils - looking down from the National Guards view and up from the students view at them
I added a couple of two of the students killed who were just walking between classes and not even involved in the protests. Tragic all the way around. The Governor sends in the Guard that was composed largely of very young men who joined the guard to avoid Vietnam. Young and no experience in riot control and someone heard what they thought was “fire” and several shot random live ammunition which sprayed all around. Wounding many and killing four .
We were moved to tears … another dark dark time in our history . I will add a few more in extras
