Today in our commune was the annual archery competition. This festival dates back to the seventeenth century. The Jefkes (the Youngman's) Guild was first established in 1622. After the guild disappeared for a while, it was re-established in 1839. Originally, only the bachelors of the village could join the guild. But in 1950 founded the married men were also permitted to join and in 1979 female members were allowed to join..

After a parade through town everyone assembles in the town archery arena/town square/park to drink large amounts of beer and then fire arrows up into the air to try to hip a large feather attached to a post 20 meters above them.

They all fire 3 arrows individually to try and hit it and if no one is successful it's a free for all to see who can knock it off first, this is where it becomes slightly dangerous to the spectators who are gathered around watching, one arrow landed about a meter from my foot.
