Dinner with a friend, an intrepid traveller who is in Maputo for a few days. I came back to the hotel afterwards and ate chocolate cake in bed. This is how evenings should be spent: a period of interesting conversation, followed by a period of glorious solitude scoffing snacks.

The place I stay these days when in Maputo is working out well. It has a couple of tree-lined paths, a generally laidback air and is excellent for bookending the working day from the evening programme of chatting and cake-eating.
