Wade In The Water . . . Eva Cassidy
Day 4
Today was another full on day with no Sunday lie in. First was a stop at the petrol station to fill up and then hit the road jack. Our route took us up and over Porters Pass and across the Rakaia River then on to Lake Coleridge which is my blip today. The lake is 170 metres above the Rakaia River and with the storage capacity of the lake it made it the ideal site for NZ's first hydroelectric scheme. It became operational in November 1914. Over time several rivers have been modified to ensure a good supply of water to the lake. The blip shows a canal flowing over the weir and into the lake. We had our lunch at the little Coleridge village beside the power house. The stations/farms are still large and the mountains taller than yesterday. We crossed the Rakaia again and could look across and see Lake Coleridge and the penstocks coming down to empty into the Rakaia. See extra.
There was serious narrow track driving and crossing of fords in the afternoon. There were Merino sheep but they were never where I could get a good photo. Also there is the issue of the truck bumping up and down and I can't keep the camera steady. I will try again tomorrow.
Tonight we are in Staverly in very smart BnB's. 234 kms
