30kg drill

Throwing caution to the wind I have planted out the 30kgs of seed potato before a more normal sowing time. Ridging the wet claggy soil by hand with an Italian digging-hoe (una Zappa) was exhausting (extra) but it is done.

A wet week is forecast and winter rains and snow have been sparse. Best make spuds while the ground is wet.


Great platoons of bikers chug up the road on the valley side opposite. Big, heavy bikes. Like an army passing through. The somnolent barrarffing fading with each bend and the enclosing forests up to the pass summit - Scarpaccia, Omorto, Fonte degli Spini, Ponticella and finally La Consuma.
