The Empress in the reeds

The female Emperor Dragonfly settles down in the reeds to lay her eggs. This species is rarely still as it eats on the wing rather than perches, so you have to get lucky when photographing them.

The Emperors have emerged from their underwater phase and are now cruising the space over the pond. I caught the female in flight last year but the astonishingly coloured male eluded me - too fast. So, that is my next personal challenge, to get a decent shot of the male in flight. I have a method planned to help me do this. I will try again tomorrow.
