Doing beach
We had left the blinds open last night since we face east over the sea and I woke to a pink sunrise and clear sky about 6am…
We decided to take advantage of the Yoga class at 8am in the chilled out spa centre that’s just next to our villa…and it was a lovely way to start the day (despite not being able to do most of it…I must get more flexible!). Our teacher (@Cyoga1ove on instagram) was incredibly skilled and flexible….how on earth can someone bend themselves like that?!…but she was friendly and kept giving us/me shortcuts and ways to get round the most difficult stuff!
Afterwards we were feeling very virtuous, and on our way to breakfast stopped off to feed Yolo the flying squirrel who’s in their rescue centre. He fed from a little syringe of milk and had beautiful big eyes. Nice to see one up close having seen several flying in Danum Valley.
Breakfast with J&B, chatting about plans for the day and holidays with their families in the past, including how they’ve made tile pictures on each trip which are now mounted on their garden fence and have become a record of the family as they’ve grown and a great way to remember each holiday.
We decided to catch the boat round to a little private beach and spend most of the day there. It was gorgeous….sea almost as warm as a bath and crystal clear, with a powdery sand beach and only a few boulders at some points on the sea floor but mainly clear. I swam a lot, floated on my back, did some beachcombing (coral and cowrie shells, but not a lot), looked at the family of monitor lizards behind the cafe, the recovering turtle Barbara waiting in a pool to be released later and the macaques that made forays out of the trees, read our books, dozed, and had some drinks. It was lovely! The last couple of times I went in the sea I felt like I was getting nipped by something but couldn’t see anything…turned out to be jelly bugs which are tiny jellyfish. Not painful though, so it didn’t spoil the feel of the gorgeous sea.
We were the last ones to leave, at 5pm on the last boat, and came back to the villa for showers and hair washes (my hair is looking totally crazy this holiday!) and a bit of a rest before cocktails (a mojito for me) and dinner. I had some ‘special fried chicken’ which was very crunchy and tasty, and we chatted on about a million topics including the white heather club, and old TV like Tonight with Cliff Michelmore and etc. Lots of laughs again and some singing of theme tunes and old Scottish songs.
We were in bed by 9.30pm, exhausted from so much relaxing!
