Twins Triumph
Today was the day, the culmination of the twins coaching sessions, their first competition.
They started to skate by chance, one of Mimi's school friends was going for 6 lessons and we were asked if she would go so they wernt alone, a cunning plan hatched at school that even Baldrick would have been proud of!! The first half dozen lessons done, they seemed to have an aptitude for the ice and so it has gone on, working through the levels, and joining the figure skating club.
They had both worked on new routines for today, and with a new coach, I was sceptical about letting them compete, they are only 8 and I felt very young but they assured me they wanted to do it so I reluctantly agreed. Mimi seems to come alive on the ice, she blossoms and the smile on her face is something that everyone comments on and so it was again today, beaming, a small mistake a missed element but not a flicker she just carried on and picked up the routine at the next element and nobody was any the wiser except, her , me and Ashleigh the coach.
The bold boy, chose to skate to Whitesnake, dressed in a little rocker costume he had the girls, young and those not so young swooning, the older girls in the club pick him up and cuddle him reminding me of Owen Meany being passed around at Sunday School!!! He was faultless every element done well and finishing perfectly with the end of the music to great appreciation from the audience.
They didnt make the podium much to the annoyance of coach who was certain Fraser would and Mimi maybe despite the missed element. They were so excited to have competed they did not care about the result and it was lovely to see them so happy. When is the next comp? was the question, a message to say she was so proud of how they had skated how she loved working with them arrived, when they read the message themselves it was as if they had won the Olympic gold, as this comment came from a GB internationalist, better know to them as Ashleigh their coach.
No history today, now words of wisdom, another day of indulgence and I how you enjoy the shot
