We guestimate we've had it about 5 yrs in an assortment of pots and composts. I was all for planting it out, a bit like a micro-Pampas-grass. Herself was less keen. I finally snuck it onto the top of the heap last year. It's sufficiently near the birds' bathing ponds that it's trickle-watered regularly in spite of its high, well drained position.

This year it rewarded me for my efforts.
