Aperture on Life

Hunting

Last week I caught up with the ornithologists as they inspected the Kestrels nest. The good news is that there are three chicks this year. I had doubted they would breed in the bad weather. Yesterday the field in front of the house was cut for hay and the kestrels are taking advantage of the flat grass to hunt. Once again I almost love that telephone wire. The birds have difficulty balancing on it but they've been using it as a perch all day.

It was late when I got home from walking the dogs and as I pulled up outside the gate this kestrel flew over. A couple of minutes later I watched as it picked something from the grass below. Just watching it was a lovely way to end the day. It's a pity I only had the 100 mm lense with me in the car but sky wasn't bad either.
