An interesting day
There are days when I struggle to find anything interesting to blip, but on today's 10.5 mile walk in the Lomond Hills, from Wester Bargeddie to Falkland, it was difficult to choose which picture to publish in my journal.
The walk began in Wester Balgedie and shortly after, we were able to catch a glimpse of Lochleven Castle where Mary Queen of Scots spent the most traumatic years of her life while imprisoned there. After a short climb we came across John Knox' cave which served as a pulpit for his sermons. The walked gradually climbed to an elevation of 1365Ft from where we had a good view out across the Firth of Forth to Bass Rock which is famous, among other things, for its vast colony of gannets.
At this point it began to rain as we descended past lime kilns down the valley to the town of Falkland via Falkland Palace, a former royal palace of Scottish Kings. As we past through the grounds the sun appeared for the first time today and we were able to watch a cricket match being played in the sunshine. The small town of Falkland has many attractive features which include coffee and gift shops plus beautiful hanging baskets.
As we had come up a hill during the walk, I saw what I thought was a body of water which the strong wind was causing to ripple. However as the blip shows it was a large expanse of white plants which I can only describe as cotton buds that were swaying in the wind. I know there are many knowledgable members on Blipfoto who will be able to tell me the correct name of the plant.
