Racing and relaxing
Didnt sleep well…a combination of having left the light on in the bathroom in case we needed to find it in the night without tripping over things like last night, and increasingly vivid dreams to do with either being on the 24th floor here and/or about to fly on Malaysian airlines (given the disappearance of one of their planes). So I woke about 3am and only got back to sleep after 6am. We got up later, determined to make the most of this last day, and tackled the breakfast buffet. I had Bircher muesli and fruit, followed by roti, beef rendang, dhal and chicken cooked in coconut milk to get my last taste of Malaysia. Delicious, despite being at 8.30am!
We went to look at the pool and spa and booked for a full body massage later to relax us before the plane journeys, then headed back to last night’s mall once V had had advice from her sons about what would be best options for presents. Like seasoned pros who have been here before we walked straight there, not needing the map, and laughing as we recognised landmarks from last night’s sodden dash! We went straight to the three necessary shops and got what we wanted, including V getting herself some pretty little bowls that she took a fancy to. On the way down to the supermarket we passed a jeweller’s and were browsing when I spotted a ring that I liked and was something I’d been thinking of getting before we came over. It was disconcerting that whilst I was looking at alternatives and chatting to the young sales assistant a security guard was walking around the shop with a semi automatic gun! I asked him to move away at one point…talk about visible deterrent!
Purchase made, we whipped round the supermarket and spotted a brand of peanut butter called Jobbie (Scots will appreciate the bizarreness of a jar of brown sludge with that name!) which had to be bought for V’s grandson…. We probably should have bought more jars as we know quite a few people who’d have loved it!
From there, a quick dash home in blazing sun and we packed. Having a couple of extra holdalls we picked up this morning made it all surprisingly easy and we had soon got everything sorted, in time to spend about an hour and a half in the outdoor pool and relaxing on sunbeds, reading and dozing. Lovely to soak up this last bit of warmth before going back to what looks like horrible weather in Edinburgh.
We then got dressed and headed to the club lounge for some afternoon tea followed by canapés and cocktails…I could so get used to this!! Chatted about the holiday and all the amazing experiences we’ve had, and the very many laughs along the way. It’s been fabulous…already planning more!
At 6pm we moved to the spa for our massage. When we emerged afterwards we both agreed that was one of the best we’d ever had…sooooo relaxing, and lovely to have warm beautifully scented oil rubbed in across our bodies. Heaven…I should definitely have one more often!
Once dressed in our going home clothes we went and collected our bags from the concierge and rearranged a few bits before ordering a Grab car to the airport. We’d decided to wait in the lounge there but as we arrived we had a panic that check in wouldn’t yet be open as we were so early, but all was fine and we got through all the various checks and into the lounge quite quickly. There, we settled down in some comfy chairs with peanuts and Sprite then later some peppermint tea, writing journals and generally feeling tired and ready to sleep. Eventually boarded at 2am and set off on the way home. Neither of us really want to leave…it’s been an incredible trip. Bunny has enjoyed it too!
