Shroud

This shroud is part of the rigging on a clipper and extends on each side of the mast and provide support in the athwartships direction.

Another part of the rigging are the stays, i.e. the forestay and the running backstay. A stay is is a large strong rope extending from the upper end of each mast and running down towards the deck of the vessel in a midships direction.
