NZ Native Fantail
Firstly, thanks for all the comments and support yesterday on our 200th Blip. It sent the image to Spotlight!! Really appreciate it.
This image is of a little cheeky fantail. First spotted yesterday at Delta Lake Heights, the Mistress went back today to see if she could get some better shots. We were in luck - there were 2-3 of them flitting about, with two of them with their tail feathers fanned out, from which they get their name.
The Mistress wonders if it's a mating dance where they show off how beautiful their tails are to the females, or vice versa?
Many of the images the bird had our backs to us, showing off their little fluffy behinds. I was so embarrassed - felt like a pervert, but the Mistress has no shame! None whatsoever.
For this reason she included the 'behind the scenes' shot at the bottom. One of it preening itself, and one of the fan - a good overall study of this lovely little bird.
There seems to be a lot of fantails out this year.
